You are fit, know what you're doing, and agree to the rules. This includes following all local and national laws regarding environmental protection and land use. There's also privacy policy, but honestly, who reads that?
Age requirement: You're 18 or have a note from mom.
Ultra-distance cycling is an exciting adventure, but it also comes with risks, which can include serious injury or even death. By registering, you confirm that you understand these risks and take full responsibility for your own safety and choices during the event. Before the start, you’ll be asked to sign a waiver.
E-Bikes: Sorry, electrically assisted heroes must wait. But who knows what the future holds. ;)
In order to participate in Rooted Secrets, all riders must hold valid personal insurance, including liability, health, and life coverage, for the entire duration of the adventure. This is essential to ensure both your own safety and the well-being of all participants.
Riding Independently
This adventure is about experiencing the route on your own strength. Everything you need along the way – whether it’s meals, drinks, or a place to rest – should come from services that are publicly available to everyone, such as shops, cafés, hotels, or campsites. You can also start out carrying your own supplies if you prefer.
Fairness on the Road
To keep the spirit of the ride equal for all, private support is not allowed. This means no personal follow cars or friends and family meeting you with food, gear, or repairs. The only exception is if you visit a commercial business on the route – for example, a bike shop or café – where the same service is available to every participant.
You'll receive a GPX file 2 weeks before the start.
Please stay on the route. Except, of course, in emergencies or when facing insurmountable obstacles.
You can leave the route for a break, food, or rest just make sure to continue from the same spot. If you have a mechanical issue or emergency, use whatever transport you need, but restart exactly where you left off.
Helmet on, reflective vest at night, and first aid kit always at hand.
Traffic rules apply.
Be nice to others and don't act like a clown in traffic.
You're a guest in nature. Don't frighten, feed, or disturb animals. If you see wildlife, stay calm, give them right of way, and avoid unnecessary noise.
In case of emergency - Emergency number: 112.
If you decide to end your ride, please let us know as soon as possible – either through our official contact number or via the event WhatsApp group. Include a short note about why you’re "scratching".
Try to get yourself to safety if things get serious.
To complete Rooted Secrets, we set a time limit of 120h. Everyone gets a GPS device. Please keep an eye on the device's battery. And whoever arrives first, well, arrives first. :)
If you miss the deadline, you'll get a DNF. But no stress! You can still keep riding, just return the tracker to us and enjoy the tour.
DRAFTING: Riding side by side and drafting other participants – whether solo riders or duos – is welcome and encouraged. It’s a great way to share the effort, support each other, and enjoy the community on the route. At the same time, please respect anyone who prefers to ride without drafting.
Keep nature clean.. We're not a mobile garbage collection.
Leave your sleeping spots as you found them. Or even a little nicer. ;)
This is an adventure, but not a free pass. Please respect nature and all applicable laws, especially in nature reserves where wild camping is prohibited.
